Lightning Ridge April 2023

We're back on the road again!

Rather than head north, we thought we'd take a trip south this time for something different.

Dan loves her gemstones, so we decided to check out Lightning Ridge and delve into a bit of mining history.

We left on the Friday as soon as Dan finished work, and headed through to the south side of Dalby. We camped up at a free stay, (well... more of a gravel pit...) and continued on our way on the Saturday at 4:30am. By 7:30am we decided to stop for a much needed nap, with a 4:30am start proving to be a bit much.

Unfortunately, a bad load of diesel saw us pulling up and changing the fuel filter. (Short people problems, right!? - we forgot the step 🫣) We're only on day 2, so fingers crossed this isn't a reoccurring issue.

After the fuel issue, we travelled on, and came across a bloke who'd within the last 30 minutes of us arriving, had rolled his car and caravan. He was about 25km out of Hebel, hit a woo boy in the road at 80km an hour and the tow hitch snapped on his van. A couple of locals were already there lending a hand, and after stopping to make sure everyone was alright, (not a single scratch!) We continued on.

Currently We're on the Castlereagh Highway, about to cross the NSW/QLD border. Although it's only a quick trip of a week, we're looking forward to exploring more of our great Southern land! We have few things lined up, including the Black Hand Mine, the bottle house, museum and the annual Lightning Ridge Easter Festival. If you're around that way, be sure to keep an eye out for Where Veterans Go 😁
